II. COMMITTEE ADDITION

Committee Chair: Brenda Williams

Brenda welcomed Craig Mosqueda of Asbury College (Wilmore, Ky.), who has been added to the head coaches committee as representative of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The committee is still in need of representation from the Dakota Athletic, Mid South, Sunrise Athletic, Kansas Collegiate, and a replacement for the Florida Sun Conference.

III. SUB-COMMITTEE reportS

(1) Legislation: Israel Negron

Israel updated the committee on changes that were passed during the recent NAIA Convention. He touched on Bylaws Amendments 5, 6, 7 and 10. For more information, go to naia.org, and click on "Rules" on the right-hand side of the page.

(2) Direct Qualification: Ruth Stein

Ruth updated the committee on issues of direct qualification that were resolved during the NAIA Convention. The National Championship will consist of 36 teams, with 24 of those teams playing in an opening round, and 12 teams who receive an opening-round bye. After the opening round, the remaining 24 teams will be placed into six pools of four. For more information, go to naia.org.

Ruth also informed the committee that, beginning with the 2008 season, the NAIA will only be giving out awards at the national and the conference level. Schools without a conference affiliate will be able to nominate for the national awards. Intermediate, or "regional" awards will not be distributed by the NAIA, but outside organizations, such as the AVCA, are welcome to distribute such awards.

(3) Membership: Christy Clawson

Christy is trying to get exact numbers of AVCA members from each conference. She is soliciting the help of the committee to collect the exact numbers. Once they are collected, she is going to work with AVCA staff and the committee to try and find incentive programs to encourage AVCA membership and AVCA Convention attendance.

(4) Rules: Brenda Williams

Brenda informed the committee the steps that AVCA leadership is taking to help ensure better communication as it relates to possible rules changes in the future, in light of the recent change to 25 points, and the general feeling that coaches felt "blind-sided" by the change. NAIA and Two-year colleges have been told that they will be kept informed regarding any surveys sent by the NCAA as it relates to possible rules changes. Regarding the recent change to 25 points, letters from AVCA President Mary Wise to the NCAA, and the NCAA's response letter can be read on the AVCA Web site, www.avca.org.

IV. MEN'S VOLLEYBALL UPDATE

Men's Rep: Josh Crosier

Josh informed the committee that Park University defeated California Baptist University in the finals of the NAIA National Tournament played at Park University. He also noted that it appears that the NAIA will not be losing any men's teams after the 2008 season, and are looking to add at least two programs for 2009.

V. TACHIKARA CONTACT

Committee Chair: Brenda Williams

Brenda reminded the committee that the NAIA's Tachikara contact is Chris Morton, who can be reached at 913-498-1881, extension 205.

VI. CONFERENCE CALL DATES AND TIMES

Committee Chair: Brenda Williams

Brenda noted to the committee that she will be working over the summer to try to find the best day and time to have the committee call during the upcoming fall season. She also reminded the committee that there will be no call during the months of June and July.
