No. 15 UC San Diego Cruise Past NAIA Hope International
La Jolla, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's volleyball team hit at a season-high .349 clip and cruised past Hope International 30-19, 30-15, 30-27 on Wednesday night in Fullerton.
The Tritons hit .448 in the first game and hit .458 in game two. Russ Hardy led the Tritons with 13 kills, while Frank Fritsch added 10 kills and Jason Spangler chipped in with nine kills. With the win, UCSD improves to 4-7 overall and returns to conference action on Friday, February 8 when it travels to Long Beach State.
In the first game with the score tied at 10-10, UCSD went on a 20-9 run to close out the game, hitting .448.
In the second game, UCSD continued with its momentum, taking a 22-9 lead after an Aaron Hedlund ace. The Tritons went on to a 30-15 win, hitting .458 in the game.
UCSD took command early in game three, leading 10-4. Hope International pulled within 20-18 and later at 28-27. Kills by Gerald Houseman and Phil Bannan gave UCSD the sweep, winning the third game 30-27.
