Loretto, Pa. - Senior captain David Tener recorded the 500th dig of his career, but it was not enough as the New York University men's volleyball team lost in straight games to NCAA Division I St. Francis University on Saturday, February 2, in Loretto, PA.

The Violets (6-4), currently ranked No. 6 in the CSTV/AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll, dropped the first two games to the Red Flash (5-4) by identical 30-17 scores. The third game proved much closer. There were 11 ties and six lead changes, but NYU eventually fell 32-30.

Leading the way on offense was sophomore Eric Chakeen, who was the only Violet in double-digits with 11 kills.

Tener recorded a team-best five digs in the match and now has 504 for his career. He currently ranks third in career digs during the rally-scoring era behind Anthony Spangler (558) and Thom Stone (662).

Middle blocker Francis Hodgson continued his strong freshman campaign, recording seven kills while hitting .600. He also tallied five blocks, bringing his season total to 45 including 13 solos.

The Violets return to the court Tuesday, February 5, when they travel to Poughkeepsie, NY, to visit ninth-ranked Vassar College. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
