Ruth Feldblum has taken over as the volleyball contact in the NAIA headquarters, the position formerly held by Lori Thomas. Chad Waller is the new sports information contact for the national office, while Candace Moats is the new VCA President.

Ruth told the committee to check out the Coaches Corner on the NAIA Web site, as well as the new Open Dates section. Chad said that volleyball stats are now weekly reported using Daktronics.

Time for renewals, be sure and go to the AVCA Web site,, to renew. The NAIA is currently at 62.1% of head coaches as members. There was an increase in AVCA membership fees across the board this year, as the fees had not been raised in six years.


Be sure to visit the AVCA Web site for the improved Coaching Education section, Coaches Corner Index, AVCA Convention information, etc. New to the Coaching Education section of the Web site is the link to the NCAA's new statistics video and manual.


AVCA moved over the 4,000 membership mark over the summer, and is already over 4,200.


Jason Jones of the AVCA office told the committee about a project that NCAA Division III Head Coaches Committee has been putting together. There will be an AVCA Web cast match of the week for selected weeks throughout the season that will be highlighted on the homepage of the AVCA Web site. NAIA has the opportunity to be a part of this as well, but it would need to be a committee-driven project. Brenda said she will talk to some people to "get the ball rolling" to see if NAIA can participate in this project this season.



Legislative Rep: Israel Negron

Israel Negron from the NAIA provided opened up the call to legislative questions, and mentioned that the committee will have discussion about new NCAA text messaging regulations and whether it affects the NAIA, during the September committee call.


Competition Committee: Mike Gibson

Mike Gibson gave the committee an update of the progress of Direct Qualification. He e-mailed a copy of the proposal that was sent to the Competition Committee. There was some discussion with Ruth Feldblum of the NAIA office about Direct Qualification, and the committee's pros and cons regarding the particular proposal chosen and forwarded to the Competition Committee.


AVCA Annual Convention Registration begins on August 20 at 1p.m. ET for Sacramento, Calif. in December. Team up with other coaches to save room on costs.


AVCA Web site features new forum software under the red "Bulletin Board" tab. Staff hopes to have an area in the forum where Convention attendees can try and find roommates to cut down on Convention costs.


AVCA is hosting two web seminars that coaches and or their personnel are encouraged to attend. On August 20 at 1 p.m. ET, Mike Vietti, former sports information contact at the University of Florida, will be leading a web seminar on keeping volleyball statistics. On August 21 at 1 p.m. ET, Mark Swindle of University Athlete will be leading a web seminar on web casting. Both seminars have a maximum of 100 spots, but both will be recorded and available for members to access.
