AVCA Convention is around the corner - please e-mail Brenda if you will not be able to attend Convention and want items brought up in meetings. Check the AVCA website for a complete list of NAIA and general meetings at next week's Convention.

Discuss direct qualification for the 2008 season

AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer was at the NAIA Championships last week. She wants people to know that she is there for everyone and ready to assist all levels of volleyball and the Association. Brenda would like to thank Kathy for attending on behalf of the NAIA Head Coaches Committee.

A meeting to discuss Direct Qualification and National Tournament formats has been set up for Saturday, December 16 from 3:30-5:00 in room 209 Qwest. We need input from our coaches so we can provide information to the NAIA Championship Committee.
Mike Gibson (Michigan-Dearborn), Chair of the Competition Committee, would like to have anyone that is interested in tournament formats to volunteer for his committee. He would like to provide a number of formats that we can discuss at the Convention. Mike is looking for ideas and out-of-the-box thinking. Also, please provide Mike with your current conference and regional formats, if you have not done so.
Marcia Alterman will attend our General Meeting at the Convention. If you have any questions about rules or rule changes, please send them to Brenda to share with Marcia.
Chirs Duenow said he has heard from some coaches that they would like to see roster size expanded for the post season - it would give more student-athletes an opportunity to be a part of the experiences that the post season brings.
Isarael Negron, NAIA Director of Legislative Services, said that is something which would have to go through the CAA.
Men's Volleyball Update
Josh Crosier, Men's Representative to the committee, said he will have a full update ready in January, as the men's season gets underway.
Israel warned the committee to be careful when wishing for a Clearinghouse, and the troubles that come with it. He reminded the committee that he was there to help them, and to let him know if and when there are concerns or issues that need attention.
Collegiate Beach Volleyball Meeting
A Collegiate Beach Volleyball Meeting will be held from noon to 1 on Friday, Dec. 15 at the Qwest Convention Center room 211. This is during the NAIA Head Coaches Committee meeting, but if you ave a rep that can go to hear about this new collegiate series, please send them. The AVCA, CSTV and the AVP are hosting this meeting.
The Committee would like to meet before the business meeting at the Convention - they are currently meeting after the business meeting. It was decided that the Head Coaches Committee would meet from 4-6 on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at the same place the NAIA-VCA meeting is taking place at the Hilton.
Chris Duenow noted how it is important for the Head Coaches Committee to start having a tangible impact; a way to give validity to the group. He stated that the Committee and its members need to be proactive to get things accomplished.

2. Any request for NAIA bylaw change is due by December 20.
