No. 15 MSOE Defeats Fontbonne in DIII Action

Milwaukee, Wis. - The MSOE Raiders men's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over the Fontbonne University Griffins in the team's first match of the 2008 season. MSOE won the three sets by the scores of 30-16, 32-30 and 30-15 over Fontbonne Friday night at the Kern Center.

The Raiders finished off Fontbonne in the third set by going on a 10-1 run to win the match. In the second set, MSOE faced set point against the Griffins at 26-29 but came back to win the set 32-30. The match was a contest between two Midwest-III Volleyball Conference teams, MSOE's new conference for volleyball in 2008.

Senior right side Kevin House (Plainfield, IL/Central) led the Raiders with nine kills and had a hitting percentage of .571. House also had five digs. Senior outside hitter Mike Mocchi (Wheeling, IL/Buffalo Grove) and junior middle hitter Dan Goray (Addison, IL/Addison Trail) each had seven kills for MSOE. Goray had a hitting percentage of .700. Sophomore setter Chris Brandt (Darien, IL/Hinsdale South) had a solid start to his season with 35 assists and five service aces.

Junior outside hitter Bryce Kingsley (Middleton, WI/Middleton) made his Raiders debut with five kills and five service aces. Junior middle hitter Jason Kothrade (Racine, WI/Horlick) hit .625 with five kills. Sophomore outside hitter/middle hitter Glenn Frazee (Kenosha, WI/Bradford) picked up four kills in the third set for MSOE. Leading the way defensively for MSOE was sophomore libero Jon Holzbauer (Menomonee Falls, WI/Pius XI) who had 11 digs.

MSOE improves to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in Midwest-III Volleyball Conference matches. Fontbonne falls to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in Midwest-III matches. As a team MSOE, hit .381 for the match and .556 in the first set.

The Raiders are back in action on Saturday, January 19 at 10 a.m. when they once again take on Fontbonne University this time as part of the Wisconsin Invitational Tournament at the Kern Center.
