No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino Sweeps Sonomoa State
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Cal State San Bernardino's women's volleyball team swept past Sonoma State, 3-0, Friday night in a CCAA conference match in the Seawolf gym to remain a game up on the rest of the teams in the conference with three matches remaining in the regular season.
The victory improved the Coyotes to 22-3 overall and 14-3 in the CCAA while Sonoma State dipped to 20-6 overall and 12-5 in the CCAA. Senior middle blocker Sara Rice had a big night with 14 kills on 22 attacks and just two errors (.545 hitting) and three block assists. Senior right-side hitter Jessica Granados had 10 kills and seven digs. Junior setter Sara Hoffman had 37 assists and senior libero Meghan Haas came through with a match high 20 digs.
The Coyotes took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19, but battled back from an early 4-1 deficit to take th e lead at 13-12 and then withstood a late Seawolves charge to take set three 25-21.
Leading 22-20, Marianne Fox drove home a kill to pull Sonoma State within one point at 22-21. However, sophomore Jane Chafeh's kill from an assist by Hoffman put CSUSB up 23-21. An attack error by SSU's Ali Walker gave CSUSB a 24-21 lead and Haas closed out the match with a service ace, her third of the match.
The Coyotes, ranked No.3 in the nation and No. 2 in the Pacific Region, hit. 242 as a team while Sonoma hit just .189. Kristy Sather led the Seawolves with 14 kills on .333 hitting and Lindsay Brown had 27 assists. Taylor Krenwinkel had 16 digs.
