No. 5 WTAMU Sweeps Fort Hays State in BritKare Lady Buff Classic
CANYON, Texas - The Lady Buffs hit their stride in the last match of the BritKare Lady Buff Classic, toppling Fort Hays State (2-2) to finish 5-0 in the tournament. WTAMU swept the Skyhawks, 25-17, 25-7, 25-16.
"I was really happy with the match," said head coach Tony Graystone. "They are a regional team and we did a nice job of handling their offense."
Leading WT in kills once again were juniors Natalie Johnson and Laura Prinsen, with 12 and nine, respectively. Fellow junior Melissa Harper contributed four kills in 12 attempts and three block assists. Johnson and Harper were chosen for the BritKare Lady Buff Classic all-tournament team, and Prinsen was selected as the tourney MVP.
"All three of these players are all-conference and all-region material," Graystone said. "They just did their jobs this weekend."
The Lady Buffs next outing will be Sept. 5-6, at the Premier Tournament in Denver, Colo. They will face Northwood in first-round action Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
