DIII No. 4 Stevens Suffers First Loss of Season to DI Harvard
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The fourth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team recorded its first loss (1-3) of the season to Division I foe Harvard University Saturday afternoon in Cambridge, Mass.
Senior outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio landed 19 kills and produced a .289 hitting percentage as Stevens fell by the score of 30-23, 30-32, 27-30, 27-30. As a team, the Ducks posted a .295 attacking rating, while the Crimson tallied a .204 hitting percentage. Stevens also out-blocked Harvard 13.5 to 10; however service errors doomed the Ducks as they tallied 18 on the day.
Senior middle hitter Doug Reger produced a .657 hitting percentage, while senior outside hitter Joe Trinsey hit .345 on the match and landed 15 kills. Senior middle blocker Andrew Cranford notched 10 kills and three blocks as he produced a .381 attacking rating. Bochicchio launched a pair of aces and added a pair of blocks. Trinsey led defensively with five blocks and eight digs.
Freshman setter Derek Mulvey connected on 51 assists and lofted eight digs. For Harvard, freshman opposite hitter Nikola Ivica (Pancevo, Serbia) accumulated 22 kills, 11 digs, three blocks and an ace. The Crimson landed seven aces to the three posted by Stevens.
With the loss, the Ducks fall to 5-1 on the year as they return to the court on Monday to host Sacred Heart University at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J. at 7 p.m. This match will feature both live stats and a webcast through www.Empire8.tv.
