No. 5 Southern Californa Sweeps No. 8 Stanford
PALTO ALTO, Calif. - Murphy Troy had a match-best 21 kills while hitting .405 to lead the No. 5-ranked USC men's volleyball team to a 31-29, 30-28, 30-25 sweep over No. 8 Stanford in Palo Alto in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday (Feb. 14).
USC, which was coming off a sweep at Pacific the previous night (Feb. 13), improved to 9-2 overall. The Trojans are 6-1 in the MPSF, half a game out of first place. Stanford, which beat previously-undefeated Pepperdine on Feb. 13, fell to 8-6 overall and 4-5 in the MPSF.
Sean Dennis added 13 kills (hitting .385), 8 digs and a match-high 5 blocks for USC, while Luke Morris had a match-leading 15 digs and Riley McKibbin had 44 assists along with 4 blocks.
For Stanford, Evan Romero had 11 kills and 8 digs, Brad Lawson and Spencer McLachlin each had 10 kills and Eric Shoji had 11 digs.
USC outhit (.325 to .233) and outblocked (13 to 7.5) the Cardinal.
The Trojans now return home to the Galen Center for a pair of MPSF matches, first against No. 3 UC Irvine (the MPSF leader) on Wednesday (Feb. 18) and then versus No. 6 UCLA on Friday (Feb. 20). Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
