No. 4 Stevens Splits on Final Day of Nazareth Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sophomore outside hitter SteFan PremDas helped to lead the fourth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team to a 1-1 day, including a sweep of No. 14 Medaille College. In the Ducks first match of the day, Stevens fell in five to a talented SUNY New Paltz squad. The Ducks regrouped to pull out a win over the Mavericks. Overall, Stevens went 3-1 during the two-day tournament hosted by Nazareth College as the Ducks improve to 12-3 on the year.

New Paltz def. Stevens 3-2 (27-30, 30-28, 27-30, 31-29, 15-11)
Building off of yesterday's performance, PremDas returned to the court and posted a team-high 14 kills. Senior middle hitter Doug Reger notched a season-high eight blocks and landed 12 kills. Junior outside hitter Andrew Fessler tallied 12 kills and 16 blocks as he led defensively with 16 digs. Junior middle hitter Andrew Cranford registered 12 kills, four blocks and an ace in the loss.

Sophomore outside hitter Bryany DeFranco made the most of his playing time as he contributed 11 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Sophomore setter Brandt Grobeis dished out 65 assists, while senior libero Michael Bertucci lifted 14 digs. Stevens hit .254 on the match and totaled 18 team blocks.

For the Hawks, senior outside hitter Ryan Huberty (Liverpool, N.Y.) led with 21 kills, one block and an ace to improve New Paltz to 9-6 on the year. Senior middle hitter Jake Moore (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had 20 kills and four blocks in the win. Sophomore setter Andrew Cassius (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on 58 assists. The Hawks produced a .210 hitting percentage and landed 11 blocks.

Stevens def. Medaille 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-19)
PremDas continued his stellar play as he drilled nine kills, posted five blocks and four digs in the 3-0 win over the Mavericks. Senior outside hitter John Dennan chipped in with eight kills and an service ace. Senior outside hitter Joe Trinsey hit .538 in the match on eight kills and added three blocks. Cranford produced a .727 hitting percentage on eight kills. He had a team-high four aces and finished with a block. Grobeis connected on 35 assists, while Trinsey led defensively with eight digs. Reger had a strong performance as he notched a .500 attacking rating. Overall Stevens hit .477 against Medaille and amassed 13.5 team blocks.

For the Mavericks, junior middle blockers Ryan Murdie (Kenmore, N.Y.) and Andrew Nawotka (Grand Island, N.Y.) led offensively with 14 and six kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Ryan Maxwell (Amherst, N.Y.) dished out 27 assists and lofted four digs in the loss. Medaille falls to 7-6 on the year.

Stevens will return to action on Wednesday when the Ducks host SUNY New Paltz at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J. at 7 p.m. The match will count towards the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro division standings. The match will feature livestats and a webcast at
