No. 5 West Texas A&M Opens Season With Sweep of Findlay
CANYON, Texas - The Lady Buffs came out in dominant fashion, sweeping the Univerisity of Findlay three games to none in front of 600 fans in the first game of the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. The Lady Buffs, ranked fifth nationally in the AVCA poll, swept the Oilers 25-20, 25-14, and 25-11.
Juniors Natalie Johnson and Laura Prinsen led the team in kills with 11 and 10, respectivly, and senior Sara Contreras totaled 15 digs on the night. The Lady Buff offense almost couldn't be stopped, but that wasn't the only shining light for WT as the team posted nine blocks to none with front row forces, Melissa Harper and Lauren Thedford.
"Overall, I was really pleased. We got our offense going and our block was better than expected," said Lady Buffs head coach, Tony Graystone. "All in all, it was a good start."
The BritKare Lady Buff Classic continues Friday as the Lady Buffs face UT-Permian Basin at 12:00 p.m. and Fort Lewis College at 8:00 p.m. Both games will be webcast at www.gobuffsgo.com.
