No. 13 Wisconsin-Whitewater Upsets No. 2 Washington-St. Louis

St. Louis, Mo. - In a rematch of the 2007 NCAA Division III national championship game, the Warhawks and Bears faced off in the last match at the Teri Clemens Invitational in St. Louis on Saturday, and UW-W prevailed over the 2007 national champions by a score of 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20). The Warhawks improve to 7-4 overall and the Bears fall to 9-2.

After dropping the first game of the match 25-18, UW-W came back in convincing fashion defeating the Bears by five or more in the last three games.

Kelly Sorenson led the way for the 'Hawks with 14 kills. Sorenson also added 10 digs and one block to her performance. This match is only the second time this season Sorenson has played in three or more games.

Keri Klotzbuecher also had a strong performance, notching thirteen kills of her own to go along with ten digs. Alyssa Bauer led the way defensively with eleven digs.

It was again the tandem of Alyse Karls and Christina DeGroot setting up all of the Warhawks kills with seventeen and twenty-four assists respectively.

This year's tournament marks the fifth annual Teri Clemens Invitational. The final standings were as follows: Juniata College, 3-0; UW-W, 2-1; Washington University, 1-2; Bethel University, 0-3.

DeGroot and Klotzbuecher had outstanding performances throughout the tournament and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Rounding out the all-tournament team was: Cassie Dickman (Juniata), Steph Strauss (Juniata), Amber Thomas (Juniata), Audra Janak (Washington U.), Nikki Morrison (Washington U.), and Jennifer Stoa (Bethel).

A home match against UW-River Falls on September 19 is next on the slate for UW-W. This will be the first competition against a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school. The match begins at 7:00 pm.
