DIII No. 3 Stevens Falls 3-1 to Division 1 Foe Princeton
PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio posted 15 kills, three service aces and two blocks as the third-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team lost a tough 3-1 match to Division I foe Princeton University Friday evening in Princeton, N.J. After claiming a win in Set 1, the Ducks fell by the scores of 30-27, 25-30, 28-30 and 24-30. The team produced a .244 hitting percentage and notched 13 team blocks as Stevens falls to 16-5 on the year.
Senior outside hitter Joe Trinsey landed 14 kills a pair of aces and four total blocks, while senior middle hitter Andrew Cranford notched 10 kills, two aces and four blocks. Sophomore setter Brandt Grobei dished out 47 assists as senior libero Michael Ozols led defensively with 10 digs. Bochicchio produced 20 points on the night and lofted nine digs.
For Princeton, junior middle blocker Jeff McCown (Frankfort, Ill.) led with 17 kills and six total blocks. Senior outside hitter Phillip Rosenberg (Pasadena, Calif.) tallied 14 kills and an ace, while senior setter Brandon Denham (Camarillo, Calif.) connected on 57 assists in the win. Sophomore outside hitter Vincent Tuminelli (Dix Hills, N.Y.) lifted 11 digs for the Tigers.
Stevens will return to action on Wednesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. when the Ducks take on North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Metro rival Bard College.
