Elmira College will add men's volleyball to its sports lineup for the 2010-2011 academic year, the college announced Wednesday.

The schedule has not been finalized, but regional opponents will probably include Vassar, Stevens Institute, Juniata, Nazareth and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Soaring Eagles have already begun the search for a head coach and intend to fill the position by July 1. The new coach will have a full year to recruit players before the inaugural season, which is the model Elmira used for its women's ice hockey team.

"Men's Division III volleyball is growing in sponsorship. In 2010-2011 the NCAA will have enough teams to hold a national championship. The sport will be a great fit for Elmira College. Already having a strong women's program will assist in the implementation," said Pat Thompson, dean and vice president of athletics and health services.
