No. 9 UCLA Upsets No. 4 Southern California in Five to Win Kilgour Cup
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 9-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team came back to upset No. 4 USC, 33-31, 27-30, 22-30, 32-30, 19-17, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match in Westwood on Friday (April 10).
The Bruins, who snapped a 3-match losing streak to the Trojans, improved to 13-14 overall and 9-11 in the MPSF. USC, who have now dropped their last 3 matches as the regular-season concludes next weekend, fell to 16-9 overall and 12-8 in the MPSF.
The match gave UCLA possession of the Kilgour Cup and also 2.5 points in the Lexus Gauntlet race.
Murphy Troy had a match-best 33 kills for USC while hitting .371 and he added 8 digs. Tony Ciarelli added 21 kills (hitting .349) and 9 digs, Tri Bourne had 19 kills while hitting .548 and also had 11 digs and 10 blocks and Luke Morris had 12 digs.
For UCLA, Sean O'Malley had 17 kills (hitting .394) and 7 digs, Garrett Muagututia also had 17 kills while hitting .500, Matt Wade added 12 kills and 11 digs and Jack Polales had 10 kills.
USC concludes its regular season with a pair of MPSF matches at Hawaii on Friday (April 17) and Saturday (April 18).
