NJCAA Volleyball Players of the Week (Sept. 9, 2009)

Colorado Springs, Colo.- Haley Shackelford of the Yavapai College (Ariz.), Sara Gartrell of Frederick Community College (Md.) and Sarah Terry of Brookhaven Collegeave been named the NJCAA Volleyball Players of the Week for the 2009 season.
Haley Shackelford (Fountain/Ft. Caron; Fountain, Colo.) averaged 3.07 kills per game last week to be named the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Player of the Week. The highlight of the week for the 6'1" outside hitter was in Yavapai's 4-3 win over Mesa. The freshman racked up 16 kills, seven digs, two aces and an assist. In addition to the 3.07 kills per game last week, she averaged .2 blocks, 1.8 digs, and .4 aces per game over five contests. Shackelford currently ranks fourth in the NJCAA, averaging 4.15 kills per game.
Sara Gartrell (Catoctin; Thurmont, Md.), a middle blocker/hitter for Frederick Community College has been named the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Player of the Week. The 6'0 freshman had 20 kills, 12 digs, 28 blocks and six digs at the Howard Community College Dragon Invitational. Her powerful performance earned her All-Tournament Team honors. Gartrell currently leads her team in aces, digs, and blocks.
Sarah Terry (Richardson; Garland, Texas) was selected MVP of two tournaments over the last week, and has now earned NJCAA DIII Player of the Week honors. The 6'2" middle hitter averaged 3.5 kills per game, with a .415 hitting efficiency. She had a week high 20 kills against North Central Texas College. Terry was selected as the MVP of the Lady Bears Invitational, as well as the Vernon College Invitational last week and currently ranks third in the nation in kills per game.
