Beekman's Efforts Keep Mavericks Perfect in League Action
Amanda Beekman, a junior outside hitter for then-No. 11 Minnesota State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week after propelling the Mavericks to three league victories, allowing the squad to remain undefeated at 5-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). She started the week with her best performance against St. Cloud State, hitting at a .500 clip with 22 kills, four digs, two blocks and an ace in a sweep of the Huskies. She continued action by drilling 11 kills (.346), while also contributing three blocks and a dig against the University of Mary. She finished the week with 16 kills, five digs, one ace and one block in a 3-1 win over Northern State. For the week, Beekman averaged 4.90 kills, 1.00 digs and 5.45 points per set, while hitting .380. This marks the fourth time an athlete from Minnesota State University has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week award, with the last honor given to Brittany Stamer on Nov. 4, 2008. The Mavericks are coached by Dennis Amundson.
