St. Olaf's Kim Smisek Named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week
Kim Smisek, a junior outside hitter for St. Olaf College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. She earned the award after leading her squad to five wins last week, including a 4-0 mark in the IIAC-MIAC Border Battle. The Oles, who received votes in last week's AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll, are now 19-2 on the season, and are riding an 11-game win streak, the school's longest since starting 13-0 in 2001. Smisek tallied double-figure kills in all five matches last week, including a career-best 31 in a five-set win over Luther College, a match in which she hit .308 and added 12 digs. Earlier in the same day, Smisek landed 27 kills in just three sets against Dubuque College, hitting an impressive .522 in the win. For the week, Smisek, who is now sixth on the school's all-time career kills list, averaged 5.79 kills and 2.16 digs per set, while hitting a robust .366. Her honor marks the third time a player from St. Olaf has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week award, and the first since September 2000. The Oles are coached by Cindy Book.
