Illinois Clinic Primed to be a Success
LEXINGTON, Ky. (February 25, 2010) - Nearly 200 coaches are expected to attend this Saturday's inaugural Illinois High School Volleyball Coaches Clinic, presented by Sports Imports, Inc. and the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Brother Rice High School in Chicago will play host, as coaches from across the state come together for a day of world-class coaching education, as well as conversations about the establishment of an Illinois High School Volleyball Coaches Association (IHSVCA).
With the launching of the IHSVCA, Illinois would be the 10th state in the AVCA's Affiliate Partner Program, and the first state in which the AVCA has helped to facilitate the founding of its coaches association. The Affiliate Partner Program was established in 2007 to build relationships between the AVCA and high school volleyball coaches across the country.
In preparation for the Illinois Clinic, the AVCA ran online registration, built a state association and clinic website, acquired speakers, created a clinic schedule and secured exhibitors for the event. Staff members from Sports Imports and the AVCA will provide on-site event management.
The impressive line-up of speakers for the inaugural clinic is highlighted by Kevin Hambly, head volleyball coach at University of Illinois, and Carl McGown, former head coach of the BYU men's volleyball team and U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team.
In addition to the education, Illinois high school coaches will be given an opportunity to volunteer their service in leadership roles to establish a Board of Directors for the IHSVCA that can determine the association's initial areas of focus, such as polls and awards programs. A portion of each attendee's registration fees stays with the state coaches association to establish programs for the coaches and student-athletes in Illinois.
There are currently nine other states in the AVCA Affiliate Partner Program, including Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
