AVCA Success Featured in Prominent Association Magazine
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association, managed by IMG Associations, was the featured cover story in the April 2010 edition of Association Meetings magazine. The story highlights AVCA's 56 percent membership growth since the organization partnered with IMG in 2006 and its recent record-breaking 2009 Convention numbers.
"Joining the Association Management Division at IMG was certainly a turning point for the AVCA" said Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "It gave us both the expertise and resources to take our convention to the next level."
The cover story, titled "Attendance Spike: How the American Volleyball Coaches Association Made its Convention a Must-Attend Event," details the AVCA strategies that led to a new attendance record for its premier event, the Annual Convention, in Tampa, Fla., Dec. 16-20, 2009. More than 2,000 coaches, exhibitors and administrators descended on the Tampa Convention Center, smashing the previous mark of just over 1,700 in 2007, a 20 percent increase.
In the article, DeBoer cites a "big-tent strategy" as the chief factor for the successful growth of the convention. "Anybody who is even mildly interested in the sport of volleyball, we want to give them a reason to come to our annual convention," said DeBoer. "We try to offer something for everyone in the marketplace."
In addition to the record number of convention attendees, it was announced during the convention that the association passed the 5,000-member mark for the first time in its history. AVCA moved to Lexington, Ky., and partnered with IMG Associations in July 2006.
