AVCA/NAIA Head Coaches Committee Minutes

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 1:00 p.m. EST

Meeting Agenda

I. Welcome - Katy Meyer, HCC Chair (meyerka@erau.edu)

II. AVCA Update:

1. Convention Registration: Opens August 17! Stay tuned to the AVCA Convention website for more information:

www.avca.org/saconvention2011

2. Video Tip of the Week: This program has been a HUGE success! In all our travels this summer to different high school affiliate clinics, we hear about the popularity of this educational offering non-stop. Thank you to those who have contributed in the past year! Anyone interested in submitting a video, contact Jill Wilson of LSU.

3. Member Appreciation Month: August is Member Appreciation Month! Any coach who joins or renews during the month will receive an AVCA notepad. There will be weekly challenges that members can participate in and have a chance to win a TomTom GPS and AVCA Coaches Board. At the end of the month, we'll do a drawing from all active members to receive a free eSCORE, 2011 AVCA Convention registration and 4 nights hotel in San Antonio. You can also purchase an eSCORE for 10% off and receive free shipping!

4. AVCA Webinar Series: The AVCA currently has several different webinar series planned this fall. For more information on dates, speakers and topics, visit the AVCA webinars page: http://www.avca.org/education-resources/coaching-education/webinars/

III. Katy's Chair Update:

1. Webysnyc Fall Schedules (Deadline Aug. 29) and Game Stats:

Make sure to Websync your fall schedules (men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, football) using the DakStats software. This deadline is Monday, Aug. 29

NEW PENALTY starting for 2011-12 season: Should a member institution fail to file statistical information on any athlete for two consecutive weeks or a total of four weeks during the national statistical reporting period for the sports of football, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball; the athlete and coaches shall be penalized in the following manner: The first violation will be a warning. A second violation (first penalty), will be a $500 fine. The third violation will be a $1,000 fine and a loss of postseason awards (which means Players of the Week, Coach of the Year, All-Conference, All-American, and sport-specific seasonal awards). The fourth violation will be a $1,000 fine and will be addressed at the discretion of the council. Fines will be due within 30 days of notification.

This new penalty structure was endorsed by the National Administrative Council's Awards and Statistics Committee and then approved by membership at the 2011 Convention in Kansas City.

2. NAIA Summer Updates (reference Jamie Adams' 8/11/2011 Summer Updates email)

Jamie's bullet points

There will be a new Postseason Rating this year to be conducted after the National Championship (December 6).

Institutions who have ratings violations will now be subject to a fine (instead of simply losing postseason awards). There is much, much more detailed language if you would like to see it.

Scholar-Athlete Awards will now be done completely on-line. You will no longer send in a hard copy. Hopefully this takes care of most problems in this awards system.

Team Rosters will now be done completely on-line. You will no longer send in a hard copy. (We are working on a theme here!)

The Manual will be up on-line very soon. I am shooting for tomorrow, but early next week at the latest! (I'm hurrying, I promise!)

3. AVCA July 2011 - Board of Directors Update Kathy's latest report was that the NFCA (the softball coaches association) is re-locating and considering a move to Louisville, KY, where it would potentially be managed by Associations International - the same company that manages the AVCA. Kathy explained that this would be hugely beneficial to have another coaches association managed under the same company.

4. Anything else for the good of the order.

IV. ROLL CALL

Next AVCA-NAIA Head Coaches Committee call is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. EST
