1. "Combined Championship" update
a. interest from the NCAA in what we are doing
b. research update from sub-committees
NCAA wants more information on what the subcommittees are doing. Holmes said things won't move that fast. Wants to get in front of DI Champ committee before next bid cycle.
Ben: Looked at two diff options: Elite 8 and Final 4 to match DI. Only difference on Elite 8 format would be when to have Elite 8. Depends when school's finals are. Cody likes option A for Elite 8.
Semifinals on Friday and Final Four on Saturday. Easier to host regionals for three teams than seven teams because of Deer season. Kids also missing less class. Cody's concern is keeping these geographical. Chuck: save money by having more weekends because 16 teams don't have to travel.
Doesn't affect that many more schools. Not concerned about repping all regions if have a spot in DI Final Four weekend. Get someone from DI Coaches Committee to sit in on calls to get input and Katie Holmes. Ben: Only one school bid for 2012 I believe.
Share a cost with DI. Contact NCAA to see how much a DII Championship costs. Must seek thoughts of student-athletes.
Main thing is going to be attendance. If lose in the first round then no one will be at the following rounds. TV and length of week are other significant factors.
Speak to conference to keep them in the loop and get their input.
Rules Committee update from Ben: Pretty vanilla, not a whole lot going on. Met with guy named Greg from the NCAA and seemed optimistic about a combined championship.
