CBS Sports Network to televise special coverage of 2012 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships

LEXINGTON, KY - The AVCA is pleased to announce that exclusive coverage from the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships, held in Gulf Shores, AL, will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. This coming Wednesday, June 6, the first hour of a two-part television special will air on CBSSN at 9 PM EST. While drawing from action taking place across the entire weekend of competition, the show will prominently feature the semifinals of the Pairs Championship between Florida State and Long Beach State.

The second hour of the special will be broadcast the following week, airing on Wednesday, June 13 at 10 PM EST. This second hour will highlight the final match of the Pairs tournament, a three-set thriller between Long Beach State and Pepperdine.

A camera crew from the Network was on hand for the duration of the Championship weekend, and the televised specials will feature match footage, as well as exclusive player interviews, expert analysis, and sideline reporting.  These special broadcasts will pull you into the spirit of these inaugural collegiate sand volleyball championships by showcasing the players, coaches and beautiful setting in Gulf Shores that combined to make the event such a remarkable success.

The championship event spanned three days and featured top competitors from programs that participated in the first season of collegiate sand volleyball.  The Pairs Championship featured the top 16 doubles teams competing over the course of two days.  The Team Championship was a four-team double elimination slugfest that kept the crowd entertained with five matches played simultaneously.
Pepperdine, Long Beach State University, Florida State University, the College of Charleston, the University of Southern California, the University of Hawai'i, Florida Atlantic University, UAB, the University of North Florida and Stetson University all had participants in the competition.

"We could not have planned for a better inaugural championship for Sand Volleyball," said AVCA Executive Director, Kathy DeBoer, "and to have CBS Sports Network make it into an entertaining show so that we can share it with the rest of the country is icing on the cake."
