Roll Call: Absent: America East, Atlantic 10, Conference USA, Metro Atlantic, Southern, Sun Belt and West Coast Conferences.

The meeting was called to order at 11:35 a.m. (EDT) by Chair Mark Rosen. He welcomed everyone, thanked them for being on the call and apologized for the brief technical difficulty.

· * Recruiting Task Force Update and Final Voting

The two items on which final votes have been taken have passed the operating code. The matriculation time limit passed by a vote of 177 to 29 and the quiet period ban on camps and clinics passed by a vote of 159 to 47. School by school result can be found here.

TJ noted that these two items would now begin in the NCAA legislative process. He suggested that the first chance for a vote on either of the items would be on January 9, 2009.

* Regional Realignment Proposal

Kym McKay distributed a potential new regional realignment sheet to the committee. She feels (along with several other committee members) that the current regional alignments are not equitable when applied to the AVCA award process. For instance some conference players of the year are not being named third-team AVCA All Americans because of the other conferences in those regions.

This new alignment would have nothing to do with the NCAA regions and would exist solely for the AVCA awards program. Kym is going to take some of the suggestions from the call and come back with a new model and send it back out to the committee.

* All-American Award Proposal

Mark discussed the merits of changing our All-American program from 12 participants per team to 14 participants per team. He noted that the pool of talent is now much deeper and that he thought that we could easily expand to 14 players and still show excellent talent from top to bottom. As part of this proposal and in order to help with some of the cost it was suggested that the AVCA no longer cover the costs of flights for the first team to the convention. Rather the costs would need to be covered by the athlete's institution. It was also noted that we now have the libero so we technically have 7 starters in our game. The old number of 12 came from doubling 6 starters to get 12 now it should be doubling 7 starters to get to 14. Andy Banachowski asked how other coach's associations manage this process. Staff was asked to look into the models of the other associations and report back to the committee.

* AVCA Update

Todd Hamilton introduced Ashley Beil to the committee. Ashley is the new awards coordinator for the AVCA and will be assisting with some of these changes if they are implemented. He also noted that an educational clinic and boy's showcase will be held around the men's championship in Irvine. More information on these events can be found here.

* Closing

Mark thanked everyone for participating and the meeting adjourned at 12:38 p.m. (EDT)

The next Conference Call will be held on May 7, 2008 at 11:30 a.m
