LEXINGTON, Ky. (December 13, 2012) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce that University of Texas head women's volleyball coach Jerritt Elliott has been selected as the 2012 AVCA Division I Coach of the Year, while Stanford University associate head coach Denise Corlett has been named the 2012 AVCA Division I Assistant Coach of the Year.

In his twelfth season at the helm of the Longhorns volleyball program, Elliott has led his team to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. A strong regular season performance resulted in an outright Big 12 championship and an overall No. 3 National Seed in the tournament. After defeating Colgate in the opening round, Texas knocked off Texas A&M and Florida in consecutive matches to earn a quarterfinals slot against Southern Cal. They went on to sweep the Women of Troy the match to advance to the Final Four, where they will square off against Michigan.

After a streaky start to the season, Texas settled into a groove entering Big 12 play, where they rattled off 14 consecutive conference wins (and put together a 16-match winning streak) en route to their Big 12 Championship. They dropped their last regular season match to Iowa State, but used that loss as motivation to power their way through the postseason. Entering the Final Four weekend, Texas held a record of 27-4 overall and 14-1 in conference play. Their dominant performance in the Big 12 included 11 sweeps in 15 matches.

Elliott has been a head coach for 14 seasons, and has spent the last 12 at the University of Texas. His career is littered with All-America accolades for his players and his program has been ranked in the top 10 at points during each of the past seven years. His teams have advanced to the NCAA Regional finals seven straight times and the strong performances from his squads have made volleyball a must-see event in Gregory Gymnasium, where Texas plays its home matches.

Elliott was named as the AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2011. He was also named as the AVCA Pacific Region Coach of the Year during a previous stop at the University of Southern California. This is his first AVCA National Coach of the Year award.

In her 17th season as Stanford's associate head coach, Corlett is widely regarded as one of the top assistants in the nation. It was another stellar year for the Cardinal as the squad took home the Pac-12 Championship and an appearance in the national quarterfinals. After the 2012 campaign saw them finish with a 30-4 record, Corlett is 671-115 during her association with the program, having won six NCAA Championships and now 14 Conference Championships.

"Denise is a remarkable multi-tasker," said head coach John Dunning. "She does an exceptional job recruiting, which is one aspect of her job that she truly loves. Denise spends a lot of time traveling to see recruits play, as well as getting to know their coaches and families. She knows more about Stanford than just about anyone."

The AVCA will formally present both coaches their awards at the 2012 Coaches Honors Luncheon in Louisville, Kentucky on Thursday, December 13th. The luncheon is held in conjunction with the 2012 AVCA Annual Convention.
