DIII No. 7 Stevens Rolls Past Division I Foe Sacred Heart 3-0
Hoboken, N.J. - For the seventh match in a row, junior outside hitter Joe Trinsey led the seventh-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team to its 10th straight win. This time the Ducks (19-10) defeated Division I opponent Sacred Heart University by the scores of 30-22, 30-21 and 32-30 on Saturday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn.
Trinsey totaled 14 kills, one service ace and a block in the victory. Junior middle hitter Andrew Cranford posted 12 kills, a block and a pair of aces. Junior outside hitter Tomas Bochicchio had a solid day for the Ducks as he notched 11 kills, an ace and two blocks.
Freshman setters Brandt Grobeis and Aaron Ostrovsky combined for 40 assists on the day. Grobeis dished out 13 assists, while Ostrovsky led with 27. Defensively, junior libero Michael Bertucci registered 14 digs in the victory. Stevens out blocked the Pioneers 8-5 and totaled 37 digs as a team.
For Sacred Heart (6-12), sophomore outside hitter Kalani Efstathiou (Beaverton, Ore.) led the team with 10 kills and 12 digs. Freshman setter Tim Sadowski (Salem, N.H.) connected for 17 assists in the loss.
Stevens has closed out regular season play with the win over the Pioneers. It will wait to hear its seeding heading into the North East Collegiate Volleyball Championships, which is scheduled for Friday, April 4 on the campus of Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J.
