Events & Features for 2008


The AVCA is working to make this year's convention bigger and better than ever. You will notice several new features in Omaha as well as enhancements to many of the traditional activities including:

  • More Education - Whether you coach at the college, high school or club level, the AVCA Convention offers educational sessions that are sure to make you a better coach and leader. The schedule includes more than 60 on-court, classroom and sand sessions with topics ranging from coaching philosophy and match strategy to sports psychology and new drill ideas. Seminar highlights include a Q&A session with NCAA President Dr. Myles Brand, an Olympic volleyball match analysis led by Hugh McCutcheon, Sue Woodstra and members of the USAV coaching staff as well as presentations by top coaches such as Mary Wise, John Cook, Jerritt Elliott, Mick Haley and Al Scates. Also, this year all sessions will be labeled as beginner, intermediate or advanced to help you better target the presentations of interest to you.

  • Under Armour® All-America High School Volleyball Match & Skills Competition- This event is part of AVCA Future Star Sunday and will bring together the top 24 high school girls' volleyball players in the country to showcase their skills.

  • AVCA Girls' Talent Showcase - This recruiting event for college coaches attending the AVCA Convention has been
    expanded into two sessions providing an opportunity for more players to participate and be seen.

  • Texas Hold'em Tournament and Party presented by Worldwide Sport Supply - Test your poker skills in this three-hour tournament and win prizes from

  • Silent Auction - Get that last minute holiday gift by bidding on a variety of items including travel packages, sports memorabilia, volleyball products and much more.

  • jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon - NCAA President Dr. Myles Brand will be the featured speaker.

  • Molten Opening Night Reception featuring casino night presented by 1st Place Volleyball - Casino night returns to the opening night reception for a second year after its popular debut in 2007.  Thank you to Molten and 1st Place Volleyball for this exciting event!

  • Spalding Party and Coaches Tournament - This Friday night convention staple is back in 2008; visit sponsor booths, connect with friends, or play in the ever-popular Coaches Tournament.  Thanks to Spalding for their continued support of this event!

  • Tachikara "Game 5" Party - Another popular debut function in 2007, dance the night away at this event, with live music and a themed atmosphere.  Thank you to Tachikara for this exciting event!
