Sep. 30 - Micha Hancock, a senior setter for No. 3 Penn State University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Hancock and the Nittany Lions hit the road last week to kick off play in the elite Big Ten Conference, and continued to show the nation they will once again be a force in 2014. Heading into hostile territory in Madison, Wisconsin, they went on to sweep the then-No. 5 Badgers with Hancock playing a key role. In those three sets, she tallied 38 assists, a career-high nine kills (hit .750), two aces, two blocks and 10 digs while PSU hit .288 as a team. It was her third double-double of the season. She continued her strong play at then-No. 17 Minnesota, where in four sets she collected another 50 assists, three aces, five digs and four blocks in another Penn State victory. For the week, she averaged nearly two kills, 2.1 digs and 12.6 assists per set while recording six total blocks. As a team, the Nittany Lions notched a .275 hitting percentage against some of the top talent in the country.
This is the 10th time a student-athlete from Penn State has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors and the second for Hancock. She previously won it on November 6, 2012. Penn State is coached by Russ Rose.
