Sept. 9 - Haley Thompson, a redshirt sophomore for No. 5 University of Central Missouri, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. It was a big opening day weekend for the Jennies, going 3-1 while playing three teams ranked in last week's AVCA Coaches Poll. Her most dominant match of the week came in the first one against then-No. 24 Indianapolis where on .656 hitting she smashed a career-high 22 kills with a pair of blocks. Over the course of the next three matches against No. 2 Tampa, then-No. 13 Ferris State and Tusculum, Thompson accumulated 33 kills, six digs and 10 blocks while leading her team in points in every match. For the week, the Missouri native averaged 4.58 kills, 1.00 block and 0.67 digs per set while hitting .432 to help UCM keep their top-5 ranking.
This is the fifth time Central Missouri has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, with the previous winner coming from Becky Haug on October 17, 2005. The Jennies are coached by Flip Piontek.
