Acevedo Sets Team to Upset Victory

Oct. 14 - Becca Acevedo, a senior setter for No. 18 Palm Beach Atlantic University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. The Sailfish are off to a perfect 2014 campaign at 20-0 after winning all four matches last week, including a win against a top-5 nationally ranked team. The first two matches of the week against Northwood and Barry saw Acevedo tally a total of 74 assists, eight digs and six blocks. The South Florida native elevated her performance in the following two matches. Against Cedarville, in five sets she had 59 assists to go along with her seven digs and three blocks. Later that day hosting then-No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit, she tallied another 57 assists, but this time recorded a double-double with 13 digs and four blocks to boot. She completed the week averaging 11.18 assists, 1.65 digs and 0.76 blocks per set. The unbeaten weekend resulted in Palm Beach Atlantic to move from No. 22 to No. 18 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.

This is the first time Palm Beach Atlantic has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors. The Sailfish are coached by Bob White.
