Elms College: Director of Athletics Louise
McCleary announced the hiring of David Hildebrandt as head coach of the men and
women’s volleyball programs. Hildebrandt brings a combined eight years of
volleyball coaching experience to his new position at Elms College, including
the last seven as head coach of both the men and women’s volleyball programs at
Newbury College. At Newbury, he won a combined 242 matches and posted a .565
winning percentage at the helm of both programs – best of any coach in any sport

Barry: After 12 years at the helm of the
Barry University volleyball, Dave Nichols has resigned to take on the head
coaching position at NCAA Division I Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Fla. Barry
director of athletics Michael L. Covone announced. In 1996, Nichols became just
the fourth coach in Barry’s young history. Since then, he has been named SSC
Coach of the Year three times (2001, 2003, & 2004), AVCA South Region Coach of
the Year three times (1997, 2001, & 2004), and Volleyball Monthly National Coach

USC Aiken: Glen Cox has bee named as the seventh head volleyball coach in
USC Aiken's history, Director of Athletics Randy Warrick announced. Cox spent
the past six seasons as the head coach at the Savannah College of Art & Design,

New Jersey City: Kelly Wengerter, the assistant women’s volleyball coach
at New Jersey City University for two of the most successful seasons in the
history of the program, has been appointed as the 11th head coach in what will
be the 26th season of the sport at NJCU in 2008. She succeeds Christopher

Grace: Andria Harshman, a volunteer assistant coach on the Notre Dame
volleyball staff, was recently named the head coach at Grace College. Harshman
was an assistant under Irish head coach Debbie Brown during the 2007 campaign.
Harshman is a 2002 graduate of Grace College where she was a member of both the
volleyball and track teams. Harshman was Grace Collegešs 2002 Female Athlete of

Illinois State: Melissa Myers, who compiled
three-consecutive 30-win seasons the last three years as the head coach at
California University (Pa.), was named the sixth head volleyball coach at
Illinois State, as announced by director of athletics Dr. Sheahon Zenger. Myers
spent the past six seasons at the helm of the Vulcans. Myers compiled a 161-49
(.767) record at Cal (Pa). She was named both the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference (PSAC) West Coach of the Year and the American Volleyball Coaches
Association (AVCA) Regional Coach of the Year in 2004, 2005 and 2007. During the
2006 season, the Hastings, Pa., native became the winningest coach in Cal (Pa.)

Central Missouri: Announced that long-time assistant coach Philip “Flip”
Piontek will take over as head coach on January 1, 2009, upon the retirement of
Peggy Martin following her 33rd and final season. During Piontek’s time as
assistant coach at UCM, the Jens have won 15 MIAA titles and qualified for 22
straight NCAA-II National Tournaments. The streak includes six regional titles
and five top-five national finishes in NCAA Division II. The Jens boast an
overall record of 700-164 (.810) during his time on Martin’s staff. (posted

William Penn: Athletics Director Greg Hafner
has announced the hiring of Jeremy Wise as the school’s new head volleyball
coach. Wise comes to Penn from Urbana University in Urbana, Ohio, where he was
the head coach of the NAIA program for ten years from 1998 to 2007. Wise turned
the program around immediately and led the Blue Knights to numerous postseason
appearances as well as a national ranking. He leaves as the winningest coach in

Georgia Tech: Bond Shymansky, whose Georgia
Tech volleyball teams have averaged more than 25 wins per season over the last
six years, has signed a four-year contract extension, athletic director Dan
Radakovich announced. Shymansky has compiled a record of 152-54 (.738), winning
at least 20 games in five of his six seasons with the Yellow Jackets. (posted

Central Missouri: Jennies Head Coach Peggy
Martin announced that she will retire after the 2008 volleyball season. Under
Martin's guidance, the Jennies have won at least 25 matches 30 straight seasons
for a 1,035-271-8 overall mark, and have won or shared 19 Mid-America
Intercollegiate Athletics Association crowns since the league began sponsoring

Pacific Univ. (Ore.): Lena Chan, a former Pacific
University and Baylor University standout who has spent the last six years
coaching at the junior college level, has been named Pacific's new head
volleyball coach. Chan comes to Pacific from Mt. Hood Community College in
Gresham, where she was named NWAACC Coach of the Year three times and led the

Washington State: Andrew Palileo (paw-leh-lay-oh)
has been hired as the head coach for volleyball at Washington State, effective
immediately, Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced Tuesday. Joining Palileo
on the Cougars volleyball coaching staff are associate head coach Brian Lamppa,
and assistant coach TeAna Crutcher-Tramel. Palileo comes to Washington State
after an outstanding seven-year head coaching career at South Dakota State where

Missouri-St. Louis: Athletics director John Garvilla has named Trent
Jones as the Tritons’ new head volleyball coach. Jones arrives on the UMSL
campus after serving four seasons as the assistant coach at national power
Washburn University. He becomes the seventh volleyball coach in UMSL history.
Jones replaces Josh Lauer, who resigned after four seasons as the UMSL head
coach to take the assistant coaching job at the University of Alabama in

Chicago: Director of Athletics Tom
Weingartner announced that Vanessa Walby has been named head women's volleyball
coach at Chicago. Walby spent the previous three seasons as assistant coach at
the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater after serving as a graduate assistant for
the Warhawks in 2004. Wisconsin-Whitewater reached the NCAA Division III final
four in each of Walby's three seasons as assistant coach, winning the national

Berry: Mika Robinson has been named the new
head women's volleyball coach at Berry College, Athletic Director Todd Brooks
announced. Robinson joins Berry after serving as an assistant and later
associate head coach at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho for the past
three seasons. A Harvard graduate, Robinson played four years with the Crimson,
serving as team captain in her final season. She also coached four seasons of
high school volleyball at Bucholz High School in Gainesville, Fla. She led her
team to four-straight district championships and an elite-eight appearance in
the 2001 state tournament. Robinson's Bucholz teams also earned American
Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) academic awards in 2003 and 2004.

Georgetown: Lynnette Moster has joined the
Georgetown Hoyas coaching staff as an Assistant Coach. Moster comes to the Hoyas
from University of Albany, where she served as an Assistant Coach under Kelly
Sheffield in 2007. As a player at Georgia Tech, Moster was a three-time American
Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American selection as an outside

Drake: Phil McDaniel, an assistant coach the
last three seasons at South Dakota State, has been named the 10th women's
volleyball coach at Drake University, athletic director Sandy Hatfield Clubb
announced. An assistant coach at South Dakota State since 2005, McDaniel helped
the Jackrabbits claim the 2007 Summit League title as well as a berth in the

NJCU: Christopher Feliciano, the winningest
women’s volleyball coach in New Jersey City University history, and the 2007 New
Jersey Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, has resigned after four seasons
and 117 victories, to concentrate on his full-time teaching responsibilities.
Feliciano, a 2003 graduate of the University, served as head coach the past four
seasons from 2004-07, and it was the most successful four-year stretch in the
history of the program. He is NJCU’s all-time winningest coach and finishes with
a 117-28 record in 145 matches for a .807 winning percentage. (posted

Northern Arizona: With 17 years of experience
as a head coach, Craig Choate has been hired to take over the Northern Arizona
volleyball program, as announced by NAU Athletics Director Jim Fallis. Choate
was most recently an assistant coach for the men’s volleyball team at Pepperdine
University, and prior to that was the head women’s coach at San Jose State

Bridgewater: Mary Frances Heishman, the most
victorious coach in Bridgewater College history, has announced she will step
down from coaching and return to full-time teaching after 32 years at the head
of the college's volleyball program. Heishman finishes her career with a 653-280
record, which ranked her No. 5 in total victories among active Division III

Louisiana Tech: Former Newberry College and
Tulsa head coach Matt Sonnichsen was named the Lady Techsters' new head
volleyball coach beginning in the 2008 season. Sonnichsen’s hire is pending
approval by the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System.
Sonnichsen said he is excited about the opportunity at Tech and looks forward to

UC Davis: Jamie Holmes, most recently the top
assistant women's volleyball coach at The Ohio State University, has been named
as UC Davis' ninth head women's volleyball coach, Director of Athletics Greg
Warzecka has announced. She replaces Steve Walker, who left the Aggie program
after a two-year tenure to accept a head assistant coaching position at the

Tusculum: Head volleyball coach Nathan Baker
will be stepping down as head coach at the Greeneville, Tenn. school announced
Director of Athletics Frankie DeBusk. Baker has accepted the head coaching
position at the University of West Alabama, located in Livingston, Ala. In his
two seasons in Greeneville, he led the Pioneers to a 48-20 record, including a
20-8 worksheet in the South Atlantic Conference. In 2006, he led TC a 23-10
showing, a 14-win improvement from the previous season. Tusculum also posted a

Hofstra: University Director of Athletics
Jack Hayes announced the appointment of Kristina Hernandez to the position of
head volleyball coach. Hernandez joins the Hofstra staff after spending the last
four seasons as the head coach at Loyola (MD) College and replaces Lauren
Netherby-Sewell, who resigned on February 13 to accept the head coaching

Albany: Vice President and Director of
Athletics Lee McElroy announced that MJ Engstrom has been appointed interim head
women’s volleyball coach. Engstrom, who has previously been a head coach at the
collegiate level, was elevated from her role as a UAlbany assistant. Engstrom
completed her third season as the top assistant last fall. She helped guide
UAlbany to its third conference championship in the last four seasons and

Dayton: Kelly Sheffield was welcomed as the seventh head coach in Flyer
volleyball history in a press conference held at the University of Dayton
Arena.Sheffield, a native of Muncie, Ind., comes to UD after seven seasons as
the head coach at Albany. He is a two-time America East Conference Coach of the
Year and led the Great Danes to three trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a
berth in the second round this past season. Albany won 20 matches or more in
four of the past five seasons, back-to-back Conference Tournament Championships,
and three titles in the past four years. Albany volleyball won 20 matches or

LeTourneau: Wendi Gibbs has been named head women’s coach at LeTourneau.
Gibbs previously led the program from 1996-98 before spending the last decade

Rochester: Head women’s volleyball coach
Linda Downey will retire effective at the end of the school year. Downey is one
of the nation’s most successful volleyball coaches – both on the scholastic and
collegiate levels. She came to the University in the summer of 2003 after
coaching at Nazareth College and Livonia Central High School. She won nearly 600
matches in 30-plus years on the sidelines. In five years at Rochester, she led
the Yellowjackets to a cumulative record of 115 wins and 78 losses. (posted

Iowa: Director of Athletics Gary Barta
announced that Sharon Dingman, who guided Illinois State to the 2007 NCAA
volleyball tournament and has served as the head coach of the Redbird program
since 2000, has been selected as the head volleyball coach at the University of
Iowa. Dingman has posted a 17-year career record of 336-212, including a 147-98

Fairfield: The Athletics Department has
announced that Alija Pittenger will become the head coach for the volleyball
program. Pittenger comes to Fairfield from the University of Pittsburgh after
spending five seasons as an assistant coach with the Panthers. During her stint
with the Panthers, she helped guide them to a Big East title and to
two-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2006, she coached three Panthers
to All-Big East honors in addition to a Big East Libero of the Year award and an

Ohio: Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt
announced that Ryan Theis will become the next Ohio Volleyball Head Coach. Theis
comes to Ohio with a high-powered offensive attack and a reputation as an
excellent recruiter. Theis joins Ohio after spending the last two seasons as the
offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at the University of Florida.
During his two years at Florida, the Gators compiled a record of 59-6 (38-2
Southeastern Conference), won two SEC Championships and advanced to two NCAA

Montevello: Katie O’Brien has been named the
new head volleyball coach at the University of Montevallo. She will become the
seventh head coach in the 35-year history of the program and succeed William
"Perry" Robinson, who left UM at the conclusion of the 2007 season. O’Brien will
take over a youthful Montevallo team that finished 11-27 overall and 4-8 in Gulf
South Conference play a year ago, but will return its entire roster for the fall

Cameron: Athletic Director Jim Jackson announced the hiring of Brianne
Smedley as head coach of the Aggie volleyball team. She replaces John Haroun who
left the team after just one season for personal reasons. Smedley comes to
Cameron from Berry College, an NAIA school in Mount Berry, Georgia, where she

Memphis: Former University of Memphis
assistant coach and All-American player April Jauregui has been named the next
head volleyball coach for the Tigers, the University announced. Jauregui
replaces Carrie Yerty, who took the top spot at the University of Wyoming in
late January. The eighth head coach in 38-year history of Tiger volleyball,
Jauregui has built a solid foundation in NCAA Division I level coaching. Prior
to taking the assistant post at Memphis, the Orange County, Calif., native spent
the 2003 and 2004 seasons as an assistant coach at Lamar University. (posted

Western Oregon: Brad Saindon, former head
coach at Arizona State and Colorado, has been named the new leader of the
Western Oregon University volleyball team, announced by athletic director Jon
Carey. Saindon becomes the ninth head coach in the history of the program. He

Wayne State: Phil Nickel has been named the
12th head coach in the history of the Wayne State University women's volleyball
program announced WSU Director of Athletics Rob Fournier. Nickel comes to Wayne
State after serving as the assistant coach at the University of Houston for the

Manhattan: Named Jolie Ward women's
volleyball coach. Ward comes to Riverdale after serving five seasons as head
coach of Eastern Connecticut State University where she helped guide the
Warriors to three Little East Conference championships and three NCAA tournament
appearances. In total, Ward brings 10 years of collegiate head coaching

BYU: Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe
announced the hiring of Shay Goulding as the BYU women's volleyball head coach.
Goulding, who comes to BYU from Salt Lake Community College, becomes the fifth
head coach to lead the storied Cougar program. Goulding has 10 years of
collegiate coaching experience, including five seasons as the head coach at SLCC
where she built the Bruins into one of the elite junior college programs in the
country. A four-time NJCAA District I Coach of the Year and two-time American
Volleyball Coaches Association West Region Coach of the Year, Goulding guided
her SLCC teams to four NJCAA Tournament berths, placing as high as second. Her
teams have earned a top-10 NJCAA ranking in each of the last four seasons.

Alaska Anchorage: Athletic director Dr. Steve
Cobb announced that Chris Green has been hired as the Seawolves’ new volleyball
coach. Green, who becomes the sixth coach in program history, has spent the last
nine years as the head coach at Western Nebraska Community College in
Scottsbluff, Neb. Green built a powerhouse program at WNCC, compiling a 453-55
record that culminated in the 2007 NJCAA Div. I national title. The Cougars
finished in the top 10 at the national tournament in each of Green’s seasons,
including a current string of four straight Final 4 appearances. In the last
three seasons, WNCC went 163-7 and finished national runner-up in 2006.

Willamette: Tom Shoji has been hired as the next head coach of women's
volleyball for the Willamette Bearcats. He will start his duties this spring,
but will not arrive on campus permanently until this summer. Shoji has a long
and respected career as a collegiate volleyball coach. His head coaching
experience in women's volleyball totals 24 seasons, including six years each at
New Mexico State University and Indiana University, plus 11 years at Colorado

UC Irvine: Head men's volleyball coach John
Speraw has received a five-year contract extension through the 2012-2013 season,
Athletic Director Mike Izzi announced Monday. Along with the contract extension,
Speraw has also been named the Director of Volleyball at UC Irvine. Speraw is
currently in his sixth year at UCI with an overall record of 108-68 (.614). The
Anteaters are currently ranked sixth in the nation. In just his fifth year at UC
Irvine, Speraw guided the Anteaters to a national championship in 2007.

Radford: Named Marci Jenkins to the position
of Head Women’s Volleyball Coach. Jenkins, who has spent the previous two years
as the head coach at Chowan University, becomes the 10th head coach in Radford
history. Jenkins comes to Radford with a 30-26 overall record as a college coach
after turning around the Chowan program. She also has a 121-49 mark in 10 years

Saint Michaels: Chris Kilmer, an assistant
coach for the Purple Knights’ volleyball team for the last three seasons, has
been promoted to head coach or Saint Michael’s College. Kilmer, the eighth coach
in the program’s 29-year history, replaces Emily Decker, who resigned last month
after four successful seasons as head coach of the NCAA Division II program.
Decker led Saint Michael’s to 28 wins in her four seasons, including an

Hofstra: Head Volleyball Coach Lauren
Netherby-Sewell announced her resignation to accept the head coaching position
at Fresno State. Netherby-Sewell just completed her third season on the Hofstra
Volleyball coaching staff and her second as head coach. Through two seasons, she
had compiled a career coaching record of 43-19 overall and a conference mark of

Middle Tennessee: Matt Peck has agreed to a
four-year contract extension at Middle Tennessee. With the extension, Peck's
contract runs through the 2012 season. The state of Tennessee does not permit

Maryland: Former Dayton coach Tim Horsmon has
been named the new head volleyball coach at Maryland. Horsmon replaces Janice
Kruger, who retired after a 30-year coaching career (the last 20 seasons as
Maryland’s head coach) as the ACC’s all-time winningest coach with 381
victories. Horsmon led the Flyers to four NCAA tournament berths in five seasons
at Dayton including the program’s first ever trip in 2003. His five-year record

Akron: Ron Arenz has been named head coach of
its women’s program. Arenz served as head coach at West Alabama for the past two

Indiana State: Director of Athletics Ron
Prettyman announced today that Traci Dahl has accepted an offer to become the
head volleyball coach at Indiana State University. Dahl was an All-American
middle blocker and a member of Long Beach State’s 1993 national championship
team. Most recently, Dahl has been the assistant volleyball coach at Cal

Ohio State: Geoff Carlston has been named the
head coach of the Ohio State women's volleyball program. He will be the fifth
head coach of the Buckeyes in the 36-year history of the program, replacing Jim
Stone who retired after 25 years as the head coach. Carlston comes to Ohio State
after spending five years as head coach of Ohio University, where he guided the
Bobcats to five consecutive Mid American Conference championships with an
overall record of 144-22. He had a MAC conference record of 78-2 and was 14-1 in

Virginia: Athletics director Craig Littlepage announced that Lee Maes has
been named head womens volleyball coach for the Cavaliers. Maes comes to
Virginia after serving as the head women's assistant coach at Nebraska the last
three seasons. He also had stints with both the mens and womens programs at
California and served as the head coach for USA Volleyballs Junior National A2

Ohio: Head volleyball coach Geoff Carlston
announced that he will resign from Ohio University. During his five seasons at the helm of the Bobcat
program, Carlston reached unparalleled levels of success, leading the squad to a
ranking in the AVCA's Top 25 for 42 consecutive weeks. This season, Ohio
achieved its highest ranking in school history at No. 13 after registering two
of the biggest wins in school history over No. 9 Minnesota and No. 12 San Diego.

Rutgers: Athletic Director Robert E. Mulcahy
III announced the hiring of Jeff “CJ” Werneke as the new head volleyball coach.
Werneke, who spent three years at Rutgers as an assistant coach from 1999-2001,
returns to the Banks after six-years as head coach at Fairfield University.
While at Fairfield, Werneke led the Stags to a combined 111-85 record from
2002-2007, and was named the 2006 and 2007 Anaconda Sports Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. This past season the Stags finished 21-13
overall and 17-1 in the MAAC, and Werneke became Fairfield’s all-time winningest

Maryland: Janice Kruger, head coach of the University of Maryland volleyball
team for the past 20 seasons, announced her retirement from coaching. She
finished her career with 381 victories and led the Terrapins to five ACC titles.
She was a four-time ACC Coach of the Year. Kruger will
continue working for Maryland Athletics for the next year, serving as assistant
to the athletic director and fundraising for the first-ever endowed scholarship
for Maryland Volleyball, named in honor of her career contributions to the

Doneva Bays of Gate City, Va., will return to her alma mater to lead the
Milligan College women’s volleyball program. Bays brings to the position a
history of athletic success both as a coach and player. Her previous experience

Lauer has resigned as the Tritons’ head volleyball coach to take a position as

recently completed his fourth year as head coach of the UMSL program, where he
produced a 40-76 record, including a 14-19 record this past season and a second
straight bid to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament. The team
also recorded a 10-9 GLVC mark, finishing third in the West Division, its

Portland: Joe Houck, who previously revived
volleyball programs at Western Oregon and Concordia University, is the new head
volleyball coach at the University of Portland, Director of Athletics Larry
Williams announced. Houck also helped the Eastern Washington volleyball program

collegiate head coach, Houck has compiled an overall record of 131-76.

Driscoll announced the hiring of Melissa Aldrich Shelton as the Tribešs new
volleyball head coach. A former player at W&M (1987-91), Shelton comes to the

McLaughlin has signed a new five-year contract that extends through the 2012

Goulding has announced the completion of her volleyball coaching staff, adding
Shawn Olmstead and retaining former Cougar All-American Chelsea Goodman as
assistant coaches for the 2008 season. Goodman, who was initially hired by the
previous coaching staff after completing her playing career, and Olmstead are
the 17th and 18th assistant coaches in the history of the program. The new
coaching staff takes over a BYU program that is No. 4 all-time in total
victories and has qualified for 34 of the sport's 39 national postseason

Kalamazoo Central, Goetz helped increased the team's season record from 4-49 to
73-58-12 overall and 6-16 in conference play in two years. During her three

College graduate, Nikkel was the volleyball program director at Ripon (Calif.)

twice and earning coach of the year honors five times. She also was head coach
at NCAA Division II Cal State-Stanislaus from 1998-2004. The squad’s 19-13

Cardinal Gibbons: Head Coach Louise Crocco announced her resignation on
Thursday, January 24, 2008, after 29 seasons at the helm of the Cardinal Gibbons
girls' volleyball team. Undisclosed health issues led to her decision. Crocco,

director, resigns with a career record of 1,132-123 and an FHSAA-record 18 state
championships. She coached softball and basketball at the school before being

USA Volleyball: It was announced that Danalee
Corso has been hired by USA Volleyball to serve as technical coordinator and
master coach for its growing beach volleyball program. Corso, whose first day
will be Feb. 1, will work closely with Ali Wood, USAV’s director of beach

technical assistance to the elite athletes who represent the United States in
international competition. Among her duties will be organizing youth and junior
beach volleyball performance camps and coordinating the selection and training
