The OUTRIGGER Invitational headlines another big week of National Collegiate men’s volleyball. The three-day event in Honolulu includes #3 Hawaii, #5 USC, #12 Ball State, and #19 Penn State..
The Master’s (Calif.) remains at No. 1 with a 9-0 record. The Top 5 saw new additions of Missouri Baptist and Cornerstone (Mich.). William Penn (Iowa) rejoins the Top 15 this week.
Loyola High School (CA) tops the first 2025 AVCA/USA TODAY Sports Boys High School Volleyball Poll. Rounding out the top five are No. 2 Marist (IL), No. 3 Mira Costa (CA), No. 4 Carlsbad (CA), and No. 5 Glenbard West (IL).
The AVCA/MaxPreps National Players of the Week honor the best high school boys throughout the volleyball season. Keep your athlete’s stats updated in MaxPreps to be eligible.

The NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship comes to Columbus May 8-12, 2025. The Covelli Center at Ohio State is home to all the action from quarterfinals to the final.
The eight teams that qualify for the 2025 NCAA Championships will open competition in the quarterfinal round May 8. Games are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The semifinals will be played May 10 at 5 and 8 p.m. The 2025 NCAA Tournament Championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 12 (ESPN2).
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be streamed by ESPN+.

Talladega College Announces the Cutting of Men’s Volleyball Program
Talladega College, a historically Black educational institution in Alabama, has announced plans to cut six athletic programs.
By the fall 2025 semester, the HBCU will discontinue its men’s volleyball, acrobatics and tumbling, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s indoor track teams.
The Big Ten Network and the MPSF announced B1G+ and BTN as the exclusive home of MPSF men’s and beach volleyball. Beginning this season, men’s volleyball matches from all nine MPSF members and select beach volleyball matches from each of the seven MPSF members will stream exclusively on B1G+. Additionally, at least three men’s volleyball are set to air on BTN.

Since 2005, boys volleyball has nearly doubled in participation, and increased by 40% since 2017. This growth of boys’ volleyball does not come without its complications; complications that did not exist 20 years ago. One solution to these four complications is to adjust the boys’ club volleyball season to the summer and fall, ending with a winter National Championship.
NYPD and FDNY Face Off in 4th Annual ‘Battle of the Badges’
The NYPD and FDNY volleyball teams clashed in a spirited showdown on Saturday, March 8, at Maspeth High School in Elmhurst in the annual “Battle of the Badges” match, an event honoring first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty while strengthening bonds between police officers, firefighters, and the community.
Boys Volleyball Boosts Sense of Belonging for Asian Students in MN
Communities and schools are changing across Minnesota, creating wide-ranging changes in sports participation. While some sports scramble to fill rosters, others surge in popularity with new populations. If any sport can claim a spike in demand, it’s boys volleyball.
An immensely popular sport in Southeast Asia, on par with soccer, volleyball is played often at family gatherings and community festivals, and many churches have male volleyball teams.
2025 AVCA Spring Officiations Appreciation Week Coming Soon
March 21-29, 2025, is the 3rd Annual American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Spring Volleyball Officials Appreciation Week. #OFFICIATIONWEEK is a nine day period set aside for boys, men’s, beach, club and pro volleyball teams to make sure our officials know how grateful the volleyball community is for the integral role they play. The AVCA is currently accepting nominations for the 2025 AVCA 30 Under Thirty Awards. The awards are presented in 3 categories: College, High School, & Club. Eligible nominees must be 30 years old or younger as of Dec. 21, 2024.
