Dear AVCA members and volleyball family,
Today, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) expresses its deep concern regarding the announcement that Grand Canyon University will be discontinuing its men’s volleyball program.
Men’s collegiate volleyball has experienced tremendous growth, fueled by the passion of student-athletes, the leadership of coaches, and the investment of institutions committed to offering life-changing opportunities. As challenges continue to reshape the landscape of college athletics, these challenges must not be met with the reduction of opportunities that transform lives and communities.
Every program matters. Every opportunity matters.
When even one is lost, it weakens the broader mission of access, excellence, and growth that collegiate sports should stand for.
The AVCA is coordinating efforts with USA Volleyball and other key stakeholders to advocate for the preservation and expansion of men’s volleyball programs. We will work directly with institutional leaders to provide solutions, resources, and data-driven support that demonstrate the long-term value of sponsoring volleyball.
We invite all members of the volleyball community, coaches, alumni, families, and supporters, to stand with us.
Please click here to join our efforts to advocate, share your story, and be part of a united voice fighting for every opportunity.
The future of our sport depends on vigilance, collaboration, and action. Volleyball is not a sport we can afford to lose — and we will not stand by quietly when life-changing opportunities are at risk.
Sincerely,
Jaime Gordon, AVCA CEO
