St. Francis Moving to NCAA DIII
Saint Francis University announced a decision by its Board of Trustees that directs the president and the leadership team to pursue a reclassification of its NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program to Division III. The shift in athletics offerings for men’s and women’s athletic competition would occur concurrent with the 2026-2027 academic year. With the announcement, men’s DI volleyball will lose one program to DIII.
First Point National High School Tournament this Weekend
Austin, Texas is playing host to the firs ever First Point National High School Invitational this weekend. The tournament will feature 8 boys volleyball teams from sanctioned varsity states and 8 teams from non-sanctioned states. Matches will be played at the Austin Sports Center on Friday and Saturday. A boys clinic will be hosted on Sunday and feature Karch Kiraly and Luka Slabe as clinicians. Schedule and links to stream linked below.

It is a busy week for Division III MVB, as there are nine matches featuring ranked teams. Headlining the list are 2 top-10 contests on Saturday: #2 Southern Virginia at #3
n a battle of No. 1 and No. 2 last Friday, top-ranked Mira Costa (CA) swept Loyola (CA), and it retains the top spot in the new AVCA/USA TODAY Boys High School Volleyball Poll.

The NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship comes to Columbus May 8-12, 2025. The Covelli Center at Ohio State is home to all the action from quarterfinals to the final.
The eight teams that qualify for the 2025 NCAA Championships will open competition in the quarterfinal round May 8. Games are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The semifinals will be played May 10 at 5 and 8 p.m. The 2025 NCAA Tournament Championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 12 (ESPN2).
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be streamed by ESPN+.
Wingate University has announced the addition of three sports at Wingate University, coming in the 2025-26 academic year. The Bulldogs will start Women’s Flag Football, Men’s Club Beach Volleyball and Men’s Varsity Rugby.
40-Year-Old Man Savoring his Second Chance to Play
Damon LaSalle plays middle blocker for the New Jersey City Knights, and most of his teammates weren’t born 20 years ago when he was one of the biggest stars in Division III. His first go in college ended because he was ruled academically ineligible before what would have been his senior season.
Recently sanctioned sports by the NSAA include bowling and girls wrestling and now, a contingency of parents are trying to get boys volleyball recognized as a Nebraska high school varsity sport.
The visiting Mustangs (20-1) took command early and never let up, sweeping Loyola 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 to establish themselves as the favorites to win the Southern Section’s highest division.
MN Boys Volleyball Begins First Varsity Sanctioned Season
The inaugural season of boys volleyball as an MSHSL sanctioned sport started on Monday, with more than 90 boys volleyball teams across Minnesota taking the court as an official high school sport this spring.
Wake County in NC Says No to Starting Boys Volleyball
Wake County is one of the most affluent areas in North Carolina, but school leaders say they don’t have the resources to expand the number of high school sports programs across the district.
Students have been lobbying Wake to offer new high school sports such as boys’ volleyball and mountain biking. But Wake County school administrators told the school board this week that they don’t have the money or staffing at this time to offer new high school sports.

The AVCA is currently accepting nominations for the 2025 AVCA 30 Under Thirty Awards. The awards are presented in 3 categories: College, High School, & Club. Eligible nominees must be 30 years old or younger as of Dec. 21, 2024.
